The Coin

She placed a handful of coins

From countries around the world

On the counter,

Different markings but the implications

Became crystal clear,

On one side of one a donkey

On the reverse an elephant ,

On another a leaf with a C

On the reverse a leaf with a L,

On and on and on.

The holder of the purse

Is not concerned with the toss,

She smiled,

It’s meant to keep you contented

Convinced you have collective control,

The coin is the coin is the coin,

She smiled again,

Then tossed me another,

Meet Euro’s American cousin.
